Hi friends....I am SAI KRISHNA(19 yrs)....
This happens to be my first blog and quiet fittingly, its about my BIKE, the yamaha R15.
I am a student, doing my IT engineering and quite a fun loving guy as all are at my age...well maybe....
Right from the day i knew automobiles, i wanted dearly to have a bike. Earlier i had a honda activa, had my sweet and bitter experiences with it though. time passed and i thought i should have a bike(geared), a good one, and i had many options in my mind.
.Pulsar220
.Apache RTR180
.Royal Enfield Thunderbird twin spark
.Yamaha R15
.Karizma
I ve done a lot of searching and read a lot of experiences(ownership) and finally short listed my options to the Enfield and R15. Only thing that was keeping me aback was the cost factor. Both the bikes were over one lakh but both as far as i knew, worth every penny...At last, i ve made my choice and it was the R15(red).
THE MONEY FACTOR:
This was the or is the concern for everyone who buys an R15. Well, i won't go deep into it but i ve convinced my parents somehow and booked my bike on 29th april 2010...The showroom had bikes in stock but my parents wanted to get it home on a good day. It was 1,12,777INR on road. So the day came after seven long days of wait, and the beauty arrived at my house. I was totally on the moon. I din't even believe that this is true. Was very happy for the bike and for me too....money well spent
THE REAL MATTER:
Well enough of blah blah and coming to the main theme of this blog, the REVIEW
I heard and read many articles and posts stating the performance handling power etc etc about the bike. I got to know it was all less when i rode the bike for the first time. Let me put it into parts...
.LOOKS:
Looks are the plus point of the bike. I need not mention it really because almost everyone knows its a beauty. Well, the only disappointment is the rear. the tyre looks small(looks only, but it is one of the biggest pro's for the bike). And the tail light, resembles that of a unicorn, i always mistake it for one.
.HANDLING
Handling is one of the biggest plus pro's of the bike. Never mind saying it the baby R1. It handles like magic. On day one, when i rode the bike to my house from the showroom, i felt it was pretty hard( cos the bike was new and i was on the safe side). But when i got used to it, it took not more than 2 days for me, it handles like a dream. Not a hinch or a problem except for when i am in the traffic.
U are a fan of the straight, wanna cruise through a straight road, this is the bike. It doesn't move a bit to the sides even if you are doing about 120kph. Such good is the handling. And the point to mention, at high speeds the bike doesn't vibrate, not even a bit. This i considered something special for an indian bike.....You feel very confident riding this bike.
.TYRES
I ve seen people calling the tyres puny, small, funny etc etc. But believe me, they are the best fix for the bike. This bike wouldn't have been what it is without the tyres. When people say they are
puny, i always take the liberty to pause them, explain them the importance of such tyres for the bike and well, make them understand. they stick to the road like glue. I feel very comfortable on the corners, leaving the fear of a fall.
.BRAKES
Something that goes fast has to stop fast too. this means you ve to have the best braking system, and the bike has got the best braking for any indian bike. If u want the bike to stop at a particular spot, it will, not even an inch further...That is how good they are.
.PERFORMANCE
Well, on paper, this bike's specs doesn't speak about what this bike is in real. Its engine is 150cc powered by 17 break horse power. Very light in weight(131kgs). The real fun starts only after 5000rpm. Revv the bike hard and it just flies. I love revving the bike harder pushing it to its limits and getting more and more out of it every instant i do it.
I ve drag raced it(not an official or a serious one) with a HH karizma and i felt the bike would lose at start because it was very sluggish getting a move on, but, from the 3rd cog, i was nearing the ZMA and well in fifth i beat it(no offences to the ZMA. It has its own goods and bads). One has to really ride it to believe what it is upto.
The maximum speed i could pull it to was about 132kph, had some bit in it to go faster, but i was short of the road...
.HEAD TURNER
I am not into attracting people by any means. but my bike has made me stand tall among people when im on roads riding. People just admire its beauty. Many come to me and ask me its price, give a smile to me and confirm its performance etc etc. Even the autowalas ask me about it. Its a great feeling when u become the center of attraction(just kidding)...
.MILEAGE
I ride my bike to college daily and its half city and half highway. Though its a performance bike, it keeps me always happy by returning a healthy mileage of about 42kmpl. I ride the bike very hard. too hard at times. But it doesnt disappoint me in any ways. Its upto any challenge you pose for it. always returning a cool mileage.
.MAINTENANCE AND PRICE:
A bike that costs more needs pretty high maintenance. Its obvious. Yamaha parts are a bit costly and scarce too. But ride it well, maintain it properly and it ll be fine. Only thing is the chain, because its open. It may catch rust if not taken care of. Constant lubing of the chain is a necessity. A must. Regular service is also a must, according to the time interval given in the service manual.
All the above are the pro's of the bike. now coming to the.....
CON'S:
.Low end torque missing...below 5000 rpm, its like any other 150cc bike.
.The rear look
.Service and maintenance.(well, service is irrelevant here, but, guys in the service center are so least bothered and ill knowledged about the bike that it irritates me at times. yamaha has to do something about this)
.It is small. rather it is not a cargo carrier. so on long journeys, keep a watch. its awesome when you are riding alone. a pillion isn't that bad but it takes away the pleasure..
This is the best bike i could get at present, not downgrading any other bike but its the best yamaha has made for india after very long....
This is my first post and it is more of a overview of the bike. The complete performance and in depth review will be coming in the next post.
Comments would be appreciated
